A Major Difficulty—Overcoming Intuitive Bias
I am sure that many, probably most, readers of all persuasions will dismiss my suggestion that the world we presently inhabit is not the world created in Genesis 1-3 for no other reason than that it is counter to their long held intuitive bias. They have so long presupposed the Genesis creation account to be focused on this present fallen world that they find it impossible to conceive of the alternative eternal creation that I am suggesting. They are so geocentric in their view of the world, that any other perspective is just too “far out” for them to consider.
In fact, I am sure that my suggestions will seem blasphemous to the faith of many, and irrational to the notions of their secular or atheistic opponents. But if my proposal has any merit, it at least dispenses with the irresolvable conflict between ancient Earth and young Earth proponents, which leads many Christians to compromise Bible with secular science. I do not expect secular atheists to carefully examine the Biblical evidence I cite for the Genesis creation referring to God’s eternal Paradise/Garden, for they think they have defined God out of existence. I do encourage those Bible believing Christians who disagree with my proposal to examine the whole context of the Bible, starting with Genesis and the references I have mentioned in this series of posts, and see whether the proposal might resolve more questions than it raises. If this were to occur, then perhaps we might begin to shed our temporal blinders, open our eternal eyes and enter into gracious fellowship and discussion as instructed by Jesus,
Mat 22:34-40 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. (35) One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, (36) “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” (37) And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ (38) “This is the great and foremost commandment. (39) “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ (40) “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
