In our materialistic culture, which is in rebellion against the law of God and the reigning love of His Son Jesus, the absurd answer to the fate of the soul is that it disintegrates to dust with the physical body. This is because, according to purely materialistic reasoning, the mind and soul are nothing more than the sum of body parts—fat wrapped nerves and all their synapses in the brain. But the complexity and improbability of such a notion is incomprehensible and ridiculous.
If you accept the materialistic assumption, then you must answer the question, “Where does the information and order of such complex structure come from and how does it arise and develop over time?” The would-be responder to this challenging question is speechless. The order and complexity of your body and developing soul cannot emerge unaided from chaos. There must be an ordering intelligence, a Creator, to account for what we are. Absurd is the word for the materialistic assumption. Surely there is a better answer! Therefore, let us break the fetters of cultural bias and propaganda, and look at the question in a different way.
Let us look at the central nervous system for what it really is. I think the nervous system is merely a physical transducer for the human spirit. It conveys and communicates the will of the human spirit to the body in which that spirit dwells, so that the body may communicate with all other human bodies that are controlled by their human spirits and developing souls.
The telephone is a good example of this transducer concept, because it is a device actuated by power from one system and it supplies power in the same or another form to a second system. Simply put, a telephone receiver is actuated by electric power and supplies acoustic power to the surrounding air in the form of pressure waves which can be received by the human ear. The internal structure of the ear is also a transducer that converts acoustic power(pressure waves of air) into electrical power interpreted by the elaborate auditory cortex of the brain for education and development of the soul to benefit the human spirit. We may think of the soul as the educated and developed derivative of the human spirit that is molded in time through the series of little deaths and births mentioned earlier. The human spirit is the moral and enduring person that persists beyond time and death with its educated and developed soul.
The expression of the human spirit in this time cursed world is dependent on a functioning healthy body. If the physical nervous system is a transducer for the spirit, then physical disease or damage may impair transduction and communication, so that the soul cannot communicate to the world outside the body in the usual expected fashion. We see this in brain trauma, dementia and strokes. The transducer is impaired, and cannot serve the soul and spirit. But, as demonstrated in the frightening case of Martin Pistorius, the soul is still present even though it is not able to communicate in the ways that the transducers of other human souls and spirits can receive.
For example, the transducer neural circuitry of a patient with severe Alzheimer’s disease is unable to communicate with other family members. In the same way, death of the physical body and brain removes the transducers of a person from this time-cursed world, so that he or she can no longer interact through physical transducers with other people in time. But the spirit with its soul still exists, as most people intuit when they ask, “What happens to me after I die?” The materialistic answer, as indicated previously is mere unproven assumption
